Professor Kazuto Kato is the BAC's IPE member for the Human Nuclear Genome
Editing (HNGE) project. He has served as a member of various international
projects such as the Ethics Committee of Human Genome Organization (HUGO),
Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications (ELSI) group of International HapMap
Project, Ethics and Policy Committee of the International Cancer Genome
Consortium (ICGC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) Expert Advisory
Committee which develops global standards for governance and oversight
of human genome editing. Since 2010, Professor Kato has been directing
the Research Unit for the ELSI of Genomics in Japan to analyse ethical,
legal and social implications of human genome research, particularly focusing
on the whole genome and exome analysis.
Professor Graeme Laurie

Professor Graeme Laurie is the BAC's IPE member for the Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) project. He is the Founding Director of the J Kenyon Mason Institute for Medicine, Life Sciences and the Law and was the Chair of Medical Jurisprudence in the School of Law at the University of Edinburgh from 2005 to 2019. He is also the current editor-in-chief of the Asian Bioethics Review. Prof Laurie has held numerous appointments including Chair of the UK Biobank Ethics and Governance Council (2006-2010), and Chair of the Privacy Advisory Committee in Scotland (2005-2013). From 2009 to 2015, he was also an active member of the British Medical Association Medical Ethics Committee and the Nuffield Council for Bioethics. In 2019, he assumed membership of the International Council of Reference for Health Data Research in UK.
